Hangover and Tern gone

Posted in Unspecified
I was told that the Caspian Tern I saw last Sunday was actually a first for Hokkaido. Naturally this caused some minor doubts (but it couldn't have been anything else). I went back to Asabu to try and get a pic but of course it had long gone. I had stayed up (drinking too) to watch the England game at 4am so I was feeling a little rough around the edges. Most of the same birds as Sunday were present (minus the Tern of course) plus a couple of Osprey and a displaying Latham's Snipe. A pair of Mandarin Duck were seen on the way back.

Afterwards we went to Onuma for another unsuccessful attempt to see the Ruddy Kingfisher. The mosquitoes were really bad and the misty humid conditions made it difficult to see much except lots of Russet Sparrows and Oriental Turtle Doves. Lots of Thrushes siging but impossible to see in the encroaching jungle around the lake.

Here's a pic of where the Kingfishers should have been.

2-2 wasn't so bad. C'mon. Who wouldn't have settled for group winner plus a last 16 tie versus Ecuador?????????? Wonder if Sven will have the stones to drop Beckham? And how good is Gerard? He comes on, clears a goalbound shot off the line and then scores at the other end. A legend.
