Hakodate Birding

birds nearby

Just had a brief walk along the small concreted river near my apartment. Still bitterly cold. Most passerines have fled the snow and ice. Except for the resident Tree Sparrows and Brown Eared Bulbuls all today could muster were a couple of male Daurian Redstarts, a Great Tit,a Winter Wren, all 3 species of winter Wagtail here in Japan (Grey/Japanese/Black Backed) and a few Dusky Thrush. There were a few Common Teal on the river and a lone Grey Heron flying around being mobbed by the Carrion and Jungle Crows. A Slaty Backed Gull, a few Spot Billled Duck and 5 or 6 Black Kite made up the rest-a typical cross-section of common winter species here.
