| Hakodate Birding |
January 10 down the yearsI had a busy day working (from home) today and the weather was so bad I couldn't have done any birding anyway. So here I am looking at my old birding notes and thinking back on previous January 10ths. Actually last year in Hakodate was just as bad and there is no entry for Jan 10 in 2004 at all. Ditto 2003. And in fact every year back to 1987 just before I left my hometown of Preston aged 18. The 10th that year produced a Red Crested Pochard at Seaforth dock pools in Liverpool and the usual waders and stuff at Marshside. So in almost 20 years of my life January 10th has been an inauspicious day for birding. What was I doing on all those days? Hungover? Stoned? Some of them were probably abroad and only doing casual birding when I didn't really bother writing down daily bird sightings (I usually waited until I got home-slack I know).
