Hakodate Birding

A boring picture of a Gull

Posted in Unspecified

After 2 freezing cold days the milder weather from last week returned. Drove east to Menagawa again. Not much around at all today except various Ducks (nothing terribly exciting here), Whooper Swans at several localities and lots of Gulls (7 species in all). This is an adult Herring Gull (Or Vega Gull depending on if you class it as a full species or not). It was a bit smaller than the usual Herring Gulls which got me thinking of Thayers Gull. But it isn't. I think. A pretty dull day as this bird was the highlight. The last few days in Hakodate produced yet more Waxwings (both species with some very close views), Hawfinch and a female Peregrine seen from my living room window.
