Birds recorded in Britain and Ireland in 2008

With the addition of Stone Curlew (3 early migrants), Little Ringed Plover (several), SNOWY OWL (singles in Galway and in Speyside) and White Wagtail (several), the total number of species now recorded in Britain and Ireland in 2008 moves forward to 269.

The pair of Hooded Mergansers mentioned in my most recent Rare Bird Alert (Issue 5) are now considered to be escapes from captivity. They remain on the same pond in Derbyshire and are colour-ringed.
