2008 Total surges forward following influx of gross rarities

Since my last update, there have been an outstanding 18 new additions to the 2008 Year List, including an excellent selection of Siberian, Central European and North American vagrants. This takes the 2008 total for Britain and Ireland to 418 species.
 
The additions are: ELEONORA'S FALCON (first-summer male in Essex), GREATER SAND PLOVER (moulting adult in Aberdeenshire & Lothian), WESTERN SANDPIPER (moulting adult in County Galway), HUDSONIAN WHIMBREL (juvenile on Scilly), SOLITARY SANDPIPER (Cape Clear Island), GULL-BILLED TERN (brief-stayer in Kent), EURASIAN CRAG MARTIN (flyover in Sussex), FAN-TAILED WARBLER (at Swalecliffe in North Kent), PALLAS'S GRASSHOPPER WARBLER (trapped at Spurn Point), LANCEOLATED WARBLER (2 in Shetland), ARCTIC WARBLER (Exnaboe on Shetland), WESTERN BONELLI'S WARBLER (in Devon and on Scilly), RED-EYED VIREO (Ireland), GREENLAND REDPOLL (Shetland & Orkney), AMERICAN REDSTART (County Cork), NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH (Cape Clear), CRETZSCHMAR'S BUNTING (North Ronaldsay) and YELLOW-BREASTED BUNTING (on Whalsay)
