more phylloscs & a tick

more around at Galley today but nothing out of the ordinary. 4 chiffchaffs and 8 willow warblers indicated that new birds had come in.

Things livened up in the afternoon with the news that there was a cattle egret in clonakilty. Tick!

Cronin gets a tick

Had the dubious pleasure of mr cronin's company today, and he managed to get himself a tick too. There wasn't too much around, with only 4 chiffchaffs and 1 wheatear when the jammy git flushed a hoopoe at his feet, in dirk bay - the second record for Galley this spring.

Just happened to be in the area

OK so it wasn't at Galley but, in fairness I couldn't not mention ticking the belted kingfisher up at Peterculter at 5.50 am on the bank of the River Dee. What a cracker!

no shrike

Not so much around today - just a couple of willow warblers and no sign of the woodchat, much to the disappointment of the 2 birders I met looking for it.

another saturday score

A week after finding the first good mig of the spring and conditions looked ok for another - light south-easterly winds and warm. It was quite quiet at first with just 1 chiffchaff, 1 sand martin and 1 willow warbler but things heated up considerably when I found a cracking male woodchat shrike.
