After days of nowt it was good to get a spotted flycatcher and a collared dove (only the 3rd I've had on the patch) at Galley today - both patch year ticks (88). Elsewhere, A had a turtle dove and mediterranean shearwater at the old head today, and there was a cory's shearwater past cape. | Other Irish news

Another day away from Galley - at this rate, I'll have to rename the website! Anyway, had a look at Cuskinny Marsh this evening, along with Mr C, and we found 3 first summer ring-billed gulls there, which was nice. | Other Irish news

Didn't do Galley today but nipped along to Ross just in case there was any waders about. Only 2 whimbrel there though, and nowt on Kilkeran lake.
Had a quick look at Kinsale Marsh this afternoon where there was 210 black-tailed godwits, 1 dunlin & a cracking male ruff, chasing everything up and down the place.
Bad news for our japanese reader (s?) as mr cronin pushed yet further ahead this weekend - i tink he's now six ahead of ya, fella! | Other Irish news

very wet and windy here today. A quick visit down to the cove at lunchtime but nothing doing.
no birds today so just time to catch up on the latest scores in the year list challenge...
in 1 - sheffy - 78.43%
in 2 - nobby aka louise - 76.22%
in 3 - beggy - 71.67%
in 4 - reg hollis - 71.18%
in 5 - cocksy - 67.19%
in 6 - pockets - c.67%
Only record of note today was 2 common scoter east this evening off Galley. 1 Minke whale was also in the area.
Tried me luck elsewhere again today and was amply rewarded. Cronin and I did Ballycotton, in the hope of a rare wader. There were a lot of waders about with c200 dunlin, 30 sanderling, c50 turnstone and c15 whimbrel but bird of the day had to be the hobby which belted past, heading west. Tick!
4 swifts over Long Strand this evening was a welcome year tick for the patch (86)
no migs at Galley today so had a bash for waders at nearby Rosscarbery, since there's been a few turning up. Not much there though except 11 dunlin.
gleaned a stock dove for the patch year list this lunchtime (85)
Did my CBS square near Kinsale this morning and was rewarded with a summer plumage male ruff at kinsale marsh afterwards.
after a week in residence at Kilkeran, the stilt had done a bunk by the time I got home today - boo!
Bad news today that the black-winged stilt had relocated to Kilkeran Lake, just as I'd relocated to Kerry for the week.
After yesterday's excitement, it was back to normal at Galley with very little seen despite a fairly full slog round the patch. I was halfway through my porridge when news came in about a black-winged stilt at White's Marsh - cracking bird it was too.
