A ruddy shelduck flew over Galley Head this evening and was relocated at Rosscarbery briefly, before it flew off again. Also at Rosscarbery were adult, 1st summer & juvenile mediterranean gulls, c.25 dunlin and 3 greenshank.

Another colour-ringed adult summer mediterranean gull (white ring) was at Owenahincha beach this evening, along with several sandwich terns. Ross had 15 greenshanks and a kingfisher.

An early start at Galley paid off, as a fea's petrel flew past at 7.40 am !! The morning passage involved over 1,000 cory's shearwaters, 6 great shearwaters, 6 sooty shearwaters, 10 bonxies, 8 arctic skuas, 1 pomarine skua and 2 sabine's gulls. I missed the latter two species as I had to go for a lie down after the fea's!
Hot news then in the form of a 1st summer laughing gull in Clonakilty - a different bird to the Cork City individual from wednesday! Cracking views on the GAA pitch.
A return to seawatching this afternoon produced another 170 cory's shearwaters, c.5 great shearwaters, c.6 sooty shearwaters, bonxie, arctic skua and arctic tern, which was a Galley tick! All in all, 6 new year ticks for the patch (100). | Other Irish news
