Calling All Asia Specialists!

I don't even know how to process this, but it looks I'll be going on an extensive journey next year, to include Mongolia, Eastern Tibet and South India, perhaps followed by an extended stay in Mongolia. The trip is a pilgrimage of sorts, but you know I'll have my bins!

Departure would likely be May or June, starting in Ulan Bator and working west. I'd like to correspond with anyone who has experience birding these areas. I'd also appreciate up-to-date info on the best guidebooks, etc.

And fear not. I'll take my pooter and blog from the wilds!

Wow - sounds amazing! Can't offer much advice on birding there as I've never been, but I'm sure you'll get lifers by the bucketload! Congrats on your Bittern - a cold snap in CA has forced our local Bitterns to forage out in the open, allowing magnficent views. Quite a bird!

Did so, thanks. It's incredibly helpful, as well as mouth-watering. My mind is filled with thoughts of Altai Snowcock, Koslov's Accentor, Saxaul Sparrow, Black-billed Capercaillie, Henderson's Ground-jay, Relict Gull, etc. etc.! Ordered "Where to Find Birds in Asia", but the more expensive "Field Guide to Birds in China" might have to wait until after Xmas.
