Spring migration got off to a lazy start with many species clocking in later than usual.
Probably most exciting was a HORNED PUFFIN that spent the day off Seaside Cove on 7 April. A leucistic SURFBIRD was also seen at the cove for several weeks.
Large migrant shorebirds began showing up along Wireless Rd beginning in mid-April. About average numbers of WHIMBREL and MARBLED GODWITS were seen to the end of the month. By the end of the month about 25,000 small shorbirds could be seen on Youngs Bay.
Spectacular numbers of CACKLING GEESE remained through to mid-April.
