There were still 2 SNOWY OWLS in residence at the South Jetty throughout the month. A third owl sporting blue paint turned up for a couple days. This bird had been captured at at Portland Airport for airplane safty reasons and moved to Cape Lookout in Tillamook Co. It took only a couple days for it get from there to the South Jetty. Owl diet has shifted from the Black Rats noted in December to Bufflehead.
Three EMPEROR GEESE turned up in the CACKLING GOOSE flocks around Youngs Bay. It's actuallly been quite goosy, with BLACK BRANT, SNOW GOOSE, WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE and possibly a couple ROSS'S GEESE in among the CANADA and CACKLING GEESE.
RUFOUS HUMINGBIRDS arrived along the North Coast in the last couple weeks of February, as did TREE and VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS. A single TURKEY VULTURE was also reported.
