June Lowdown

The first trickle of southbound sandpipers began to appear right around the solstice. By the end of June small flocks of SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, and WESTERN and LEAST SANDPIPERS were being reported from the Necanicum. A wandering flock of about 20 non-breeding WHIMBREL looks to have spent the season working Clatsop Beach.

A single non-breeding Streaked-form HORNED LARK was seen on Saddle Mt June 6. A NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD spent about 2 days in a small horse pasture across from Sigfridson Co Park on Hwy 202. A probable ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was also seen there.

In butterfly news... well the butterfly news has been a bit thin this season, probably an artifact of the late, wet spring. A JUBA SKIPPER was found near Jewell Meadows on Hwy 202. DUN SKIPPERS have turned up at several locations including a wetland at Logan Rd and at Fishhawk Crossing.
