I ran home at lunch yesterday to get my driving license and just as i was about to leave the house i got a call from A.Robertson to say that the laughing gull which had been seen at cobh on sunday was in cork city centre, by the opera house, just five minutes walk from my home.
Need less to say i didnt WALK but RAN to the site.
the bird had moved down river and whilst at Penrose wharf on the fone to Graham Gordon (the man responsible for Re-finding this bird) the bird landed in front of me on a roof with some black headed gulls.
Even with the naked eye i could see the shape of the head and bill and a few expletives G.Gordon and A.Robertson were beside me watching the bird.
I watched the gull for over an hour and even fed him his lunch of fresh bread!
Cracking bird!
