Yes the force is strong with me again it seems.
After a poor saturday with just a redstart, Firecrest and 2 whinchats on mizen. And a poor view of a hawfinch which had to be confirmed by a kerryman in the end, Sunday it seemed was to be a day of destiny!
Col txtd me at 8.30ish to say the icterine warbler had turned up again!
I dashed down solo to galley and nailed the little bastard in the lashers garden.
2 black redstarts and a whinchat showed promise for a good day of autumn migration.
I went to strawtown, which was dripping with birds, only to hear of a Raddes warbler near baltimore in west cork!
Sped down and within an hour was gawping at the best bird of the year (yes even better than Fea's or little shearwater). The bird gave itself up giving full scope views a short distance away.
I returned to strawtown in the evening and was delighted to find 2 Yellowbrowed warblers, 12 black redstarts, 10 black caps, 1 lesser whitethroat, 1 firecrest and 40 or so chiffchaffs, and 30 song thrushes.
An amazing day with 2 irish ticks (one of which was a lifer) and a finders tick with yellow browed warbler.
Bring on the Pallas's next weekend!!!

not sure yoda is a "radde's in flight" kind of guy is he? I mean he may be shit hot at all that light sabre stuff but can he really cut it when faced with a tricky unstreaked acro or possible blyth's pipit? I think not!
Posted by: col at October 18, 2005 11:58 AMAh but the force is'nt used to identify the bird...the force just leads you to it...its that little voice telling you "i'll check that garden for the craic"...or "ill walk down that little boreen".
It works for me.I wave my hand and traffic lights turn green...i show up for a 3 second view of a Fea's...The girls dig my lightsaber...
You dont believe in the force col?...
"That is why you fail" ;)
Yoda rocks.

"the girls dig my light saber" - i can't believe you said that mate! Thats gotta be questioned for starters! I believe in da force all right, all I was saying was that i don't think Yoda is as sharp in the field as he once was, I mean what has he actually found this autumn for example? Unless you're trying to claim that Steve Dodgeson aka Mr Radde's is actually Yoda?? He's too tall, shurely?
Posted by: col at October 19, 2005 11:07 AMWell true..he has'nt found anything this autumn...but that is because he is too short to see over stone walls!
