Disco Fever

What a class weekend!
Disco Rob came on down on paddys day and i met him at the lough and we gawked at the first year laugher for a wee while!

Then we hit Rosies bar in carrigaline for a few jars!....what a shit hole!
But twas good craic all the same!

On saturday we went down to Rosscarberry to see the franklins gull, a tick for Disco.
Eventually got the bird and a first year glaucous at owenahincha.
Wheatears we here and there, and a reasonable passage of Manx shearwaters were off galley (oh yeah!!)
A female long tailed duck was at ballygranna and a green sandpiper at belgooly.

On sunday Disco, Dara and I went down to ballyvergan looking for migrants...no more than 10 minutes in the hide and a stunning european bittern popped out...RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE HIDE!

The bird seemed to fly from right beneath us and landed on the other side of the pool in front of us...roughly 12 meters away. It then proceeded to stalk through the reeds in a classic bittern manner before coming up onto a grass tussock and doing that "bitterning" posture with the head held up straight!...right out in the open too! I doubt anyone in this country has ticked the species so well!
Stunning views! What a way to get a lifer!!
The bird was just class..there are no words to describe it other than F-ING CLASS!

We then had a few wheatears at ring, 2 chough at Knockadoon, and the little ringed plover at Ballycotton.
The first winter little gull was off cobh.
Went back down to ballyvergan with the beast and de da!
They dipped...oh well......BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
