Birding this weekend produced no major rarities, however, there was a hint of autumn wader passage going on.
On saturday, A full adult summer male Ruff, a black variant bird, was present at timolegue. Just a tad of white on the forehead indicating the start of moult.
Sunday produced a juv grey plover, A 1st summer Knot, and a 1st summer Curlew Sandpiper at ballycotton, fresh in with 8 dunlin...hopefully the mega will pop in there any day now!
A brief seawatch off ballycotton produced a single puffin and good numbers of Manxies.

A 3 day boozin..i mean conference trip to galway was..predictably..quiet.2 Glaucous gulls at nimmos pier, an Adult and a 2nd summer, were the best on offer in galway itself.
While 2 drake garganey at shannon airport lagoon were the best on the return trip home.
Saturday was a day of recovery, and sunday produced only...and finally the drake garganey at pilmore strand.

A 1 hour seawatch off the cliffs of Ballycotton on saturday produced a single balearic shearwater and 50+ storm petrels....isnt storm petrel just the coolest name for a bird ever?...i mean cmon....STORM petrel....class.
Anyway...this was to be the most exciting bird of the weekend really.
A reed warbler made an appearace at the pool at pilmore...truly superb views as it hassled a sedge warber...nice compararative views showing all the features. Good fun to watch.
On sunday I took S.R. out to try and see these things again but no joy...too windy and sunny im afraid...
Bring on the seawatching is all i can say...Oh my my my oh my my my oh my my my my JULY!!

A long weekend in wexford produced the goods...oh yes.
Night heron at Tacumshin, although taking 26 hours to see, was a bogey bird finally eliminated.
Years of pain through missing them time and again in spain was erased in an instant.
Saturday was a bust with no good birds being seen in wexford, but sunday Started well with the Night heron and an osprey migrating south.
A summer adult little stint was also present.
On monday i went back down to tac in hopes of seeing Short toed lark.
This was not to be, but a quail flushed off sigginstown was a welcome consolation tick!
That puts me at 296...the countdown to 300 has begun.
