Southend seafront, Boxing Day

The bracing wind along Southend seafront seemed the perfect antidote to the excesses of Christmas Day, so I undertook my annual pilgrimage to see if Rossi, the Ring-billed Gull was in residence. Apparently not, but lots of gulls in the general vicinity.

Several Mediterranean Gulls were hanging around; this individual had lost a leg.

Most of the gulls present were Black-headed...

... with smaller numbers of Common.

This enterprising Kestrel had two unsuccessful strikes at the Sanderlings and Turnstones.

Small flocks of Brent Geese were present along the seafront at high tide.
