This morning I went to Bowling Green Marsh in Topsham for a look but there were only the usual suspects there birdwise with numerous CURLEW , BLACK TAILED GODWIT & REDSHANK , a few WHIMBREL , DUNLIN & BAR TAILED FODWIT & a single GREY PLOVER .
But the highlight of the morning were these 3 foxes that spent most of the time playing & jumping on each other .
I then went to the recreation ground in Topsham where there was a GREAT SPOTTED WOODPECKER calling in the trees & the long staying SLAVONIAN GREBE was still showing on the river .
This morning I went for a look at Bowling Green Marsh again but the only birds of any note were a some WHIMBREL & 2 GREY PLOVER .
I then went to the flooded fields in Clyst St Mary again but today there wasn`t a gull to be seen but the RUFF that I dipped yesterday was there today , funny old game this birding isn`t it !
Back at my house in Topsham there was quite a few juvenile SWALLOW sat on the wires this afternoon .
I had a call today telling me that there were some MEDITERRANEAN GULL`s & a Ruff on some flooded fields near the village of Clyst St Mary near Exeter so I went over for a quick look & saw at least half a dozen Med Gull`s of different ages & 2 STOCK DOVE flew over but alas there was no sign of the Ruff .
This morning I went for a look at Bowling Green Marsh in Topsham , but there wasn`t a lot to see with only a flock of CURLEW with a few WHIMBREL in with them & some nice summer plumaged BLACK TAILED GODWIT .
Also seen was a flock of BLACK HEADED GULL & this 1st summer MEDITERRANEAN GULL .
I then went over to the pool at Matford near Exeter but that was dead as well but I did see a Stoat that dashed across the path in front of me , the last stop of the day was up at Woodbury Common where I saw a HOBBY , a TURTLE DOVE & a Grayling Butterfly .
This afternoon I went down to the Otter Estuary at Budleigh Salterton to look for the WHOOPER SWAN that has been reported there & I found it showing well on the river down below the hide .
Also seen were REED WARBLER , SEDGE WARBLER & numerous HOUSE MARTIN & SWALLOW & a single SWIFT .
And on the shingle ridge at Budleigh Salterton there was a very nice Horned Poppy .
Today I had a look again for the Corn Bunting that I saw last week at the Sowton area of Exeter but alas there was no sign of it today .
But there was a WHITETHROAT & a SPOTTED FLYCATCHER ( my first of the year ) .
