Comments: Sure, Birds

Sounds wonderful. The biggest flock I've seen was about 15,000 barnacle geese, and it was spectacular.

Holy CRAP, dude. I'm sure there's a good explanation, but right now it's eerie. I can think of, like, three people on Earth that MIGHT be conscious of my Jandek fetish, which is 20 years gone. And the video didn't friggin' help! Tho it was funny.

Wow. What a bunch of fractured, diseased memories are being dragged to the surface. Can't you see I'm just trying to be a good monk and peep at birds? Must you torment me with my sordid past? In front of all these people who think I'm just a regular guy?

For those who don't know, Jandek, AKA Sterling Smith, was a Texas aberration (saying a lot for Texas) who self-released a series of albums in the 80's. Still doing it? No idea, but I wouldn't be surprised. They had an irresistible look -- grainy B&W photos on the covers, enigmatic titles, zero information. And the music! Sterling in like deep Lithium trance, randomly wresting notes from an acoustic (electric ever? Can't remember now) guitar, oozing lyrics from festering synapses beamed in from his particular uncharted planet. The tracks were like audio Rorschach tests, almost certainly recorded in his mom's mildewed basement. A handful of us were deeply into it.

I got turned on by a college friend named Neil. He and his bizarre friends had developed the obsession in high school, one of them going so far as to cover Jandek for a talent show. They also, as I recall, tracked him down to do what must be one of the most peculiar radio interviews ever.

That's most of what I remember, except for the lyrics I quoted elsewhere, from a song about a janitor.

OK, I've got to go lie down now.
