Barnes wwt 30/04/06

An excellent day produced my first Swifts of the year. 2 Avocets brang hopes of possible breeding as they were seen for a week.


I also saw 1 Green sand and 1 Reed warbler.


There were a few disappointments though. I missed a Honey buzzard, 2 Hobbies and a Lesser whitethroat!

Barnes common 28/04/06

I went to try out for the A Cricket team at my school. We were having a match against Latymer the next week.


On to birds though. I managed to spot 2 Shelduck at Barnes pond with a Kestrel over and I heard the yaffle of a Green wood.


 


Oh and I did manage to get into the A team!

New Forest 22-04-06

I went on this trip with the Marylebone Birdwatching society. Slightly disappointing day with 36 species for me (42 for the group). Highlights were Yellowhammer, 1 Male Cuckoo, 2 Redstarts 1m 1f (all Beulieu road) and Firecrest (Bolderwood).


 



 


 


I also saw Brimstone, Speckled wood, Large white, Smooth newt, Common lizard and Marsh frog.

There were 47 species seen with 1 addition to my patch year list. It was a male Whitethroat next to Dulverton hide. This is a new bird for me, so it brings my life list to 154 species.

Yet another excellent day produced 46 species with 3 additions to my patch year list. They were: 2 Blackaps


         2 Common sandpipers


         2 Yellow wagtails


There were also 3m and 1f Wheatear and 2 Ring ouzels

Barnes wwt

51 species were seen producing my second highest patch day list. The weather was showery but gradually got better towards the afternoon. I saw 2 Long tailed tits; the first of the year for me. There were also 2 Dunlins on the wader scrape with good numbers of Redshanks and LRPs.

An excellent day at Barnes produced 52 species.


New patch year list ticks were Knot, Sedge warbler, Linnet and 1 Male Wheatear at the Main lake.


Other highlights were 2 Sparrowhawk over, Ring ouzel and 1 Male Pintail.


 


Birds of the day:




  • 1 winter plumaged Knot at the wader scrape


  • 1 Male Wheatear at shingle island on main lake.

This brings my patch year list to: 77 species.
