A distinctive bird especially this time of year as they moult into their breeding plumage.

Having seen the Spoonbills standing in the bay as the light faded last weekend I was curious to find out if they spend the night there (normally they return to Brownsea Lagoon).
Last weekend.
First light this morning.
The water gradually rose..
and they moved off to higher ground.
The warm water outflows into Holes Bay are always favoured in winter by the Spotted Redshanks and with the weather being so cold recently they are showing up in good numbers.

Very cold for the last week and the harbour has slowly started to freeze, hopefully it won’t last too long.
An ice rimmed Brands Bay.
Little Egret
Redshanks (can you spot the difference) and Teal.
