Mallard at Newlands

After dropping Mark off at home the mist dropped and the afternoon sun came out. I decided to pop into Newlands Farm on the way home. Hoping to re-discover the Yellow Browed Warbler and Firecrest sat side by side waiting to be photographed. As I pulled up I noticed Mark Rolfe and Dan Houghton walking around the larger pond having already had the same idea. Another plan backfires. In the event the area was quiet except for a couple of Mallards and Moorhens. After the lads left, one of the Mallards started to bathe and preen and she was just catching the late afternoon sun.Mallard, Newlands Farm, 11 Feb 2009123Just as I was about to leave I heard this Wren calling away. I literally managed on shot of the bird as it popped onto the perch for a brief second.Wren, Newlands Farm, 11 Feb 2009
