Concern over Red Kites found dead in suspicious circumstances: poisoning suspected
BirdWatch Ireland, Ireland’s largest wildlife conservation charity, is deeply concerned about the deaths of yet more rare Irish birds of prey. Over the last two weeks, three Red Kites have been found dead in north County Dublin, all under suspicious circumstances, prompting fears that they may have been poisoned. The National Parks and Wildlife Service has submitted the carcasses for a full post mortem at the State Veterinary Laboratories at Celbridge to determine the cause of death and to ascertain if poisons were indeed responsible. This occurs just weeks after a Red Kite was confirmed as poisoned by a banned substance near Woodenbridge in Wicklow in early November.
