This morning I set off at 4am to head towards the frying pan on the MPA road in the hope of seeing a Chilean Flamingo that had been report on one of the ponds to the north of the road. After walking 2 miles over very rough ground to completely the wrong pond I finally saw it in the correct location. It has been 16 years since I last saw a Chilean Flamingo in the Falkland Islands that bird was on Pebble Island. There have been several records since that bird but never in a place where I have had the opportunity to see them. What a great start to 2012.

Have a terrific day.
That’s so amazing to see a Flamingo in the Falklands!
Alan, I really hope it hangs on till I get out there – now scheduled to be 23rd Jan. I’ve birded Chile a fair bit but never been lucky enough to see one! Trevor
Hi Trevor,
It was still about yesterday and looks very settled so you might be in luck, I will keep an eye on it and let you know when you get here.
Cheers
Alan

Very nice !!!! Chilean flamenco ? Really beautiful……. Great pic….
I’ve never seen a pink flamingo- only in movies and they always seem to be in calm waters. These waters look rough …
