Who is Bessie, wife, girlfriend, lover (I wish) no none of these. Bessie is 6.6 meters long has four wheels twin single beds shower/toilet fridge cooker and a large storage area under the beds. Yes Bessie is our motorhome (motor caravan RV).

She is a Hymer van 572 and we aquired her in October 2007. I have just retired and the Carole retired 5 years ago but elected to carry on working until now. It is our intention to have longer stays away, up until now we have only ever managed about 16 days due to work etc.

I am disabled in that I had my right leg amputated below the knee in 2004, I now walk with a prosthesis but the other leg is not too good so walking any distance is a problem. To this end I now use a mobility scooter, especially when out birding.

Equipment we use consists of a Swarovski 65mm spotting scope and 2 pairs of Swarovski 8×42 binocular. As you can see we are fans of Swarovski optics in my humble opinion the best. Camera’s are both Canon, carole has a EOS 300D with Sigma 150mm Macro lens and 28-80mm general purpose. Carole tends to favour flowers and butterflies and I hope to show some of her work on here.

I have a Canon 20D plus Canon 400mm F5.6 + Kenko 1×4 extender. I also get to borrow the 28-80 now and then.
