Hello chaps,

Been a long-term Surfbirds supporter, however this all looks very familiar. Er, isn't this just Birdforum in a different colour?

Sorry, struggling a bit on this one...

Hi Ben, yes the software is the same - vBulletin which is very common forum software. We're not trying to be Birdforum but we do want a board for our users to be able to interact with each other and our admin. We're hopeful it will make the Surfbirds experience a better one so that members will be able to comment and give feedback on ID articles, eqpt reviews, trip reports etc. We're hoping some of our more friendly members will be able to help us with answering bird ID questions too. We get a ton of those emails each week! We could do with the help :)

We also want our reader's feedback about what works and doesn't work on the site and what you'd want to see in the future.

Hope to see you on here once in a while. Best, Andy

Thanks Andy, and good luck with your project, though I guess it could be hard to gain traction with Birdforum having such a wide user-based. Of course, 'Dudeforum' does have it's problems (not least including the fact they banned me...), so maybe there is an opening for another forum-based service. Great to see you seperating easy & difficult bird ID's for a start.

Well, best of luck, I'll keep an eye on it (and maybe request some Californian gen from you when I go back to clean up a few gaps early next year!!).

Cheers, Ben

PS Love the American Pipit illustration. Got it on my British list at last this year...

Thanks Ben, glad you like the pic and glad you got one this year. It was done a while ago for Birding magazine for an ID plate on American and Siberian Pipit. Maybe Siberian's the next one for the UK - not sure if there are any japonicus records there yet...

Don't hesitate to ask about California help although I'm not an expert. I just went to a banding session out in Malibu and got some nice footage which I will post later. Best, Andy

Have you looked at BF recently Ben?

Colin

Edit: Ahh, they are now back to "Institutional Green" - their "Blue Phase" was just a seasonal 'flash in the pan'.

Hello Dave,

And a warm (if belated) welcome to Surfbirds Forum. Hope you will contribute, however "new" you are to birding.

Some friends of mine living on the shore of Lake Ontario say that things are a bit "cool" there at the moment!!

Happy New Year,

Colin
