Take a look at this video clip which shows a Golden Eagle capturing not one but two adult male Capercaillie during their lekking:

Surprisingly, the second Capercaillie hung around to attack the eagle and apparently paid the price for doing so.

Thanks RaptorBirder. Sad to see but amazing to see how the second one stayed it's ground, either to try to protect the other - or to carry on where it was before the Eagle came in! I suppose this goes on a lot more than we're ever aware of, nature at work in both ways in this case.

RaptorBirder, you win the prize for most jaw--dropping links posted in one week. Fantastic video - everyone should see it!! Really remarkable that although those Capercailies were fighting each other, the other bird risked his life to fight the eagle to presumably free his challenger..

wow, thats amazing footage:eek: i know capercaille arent exactly clever birds, but that one definitely aint the sharpest tool in the box;)

no idea an eagle would try to tackle a caper!
