You will be very lucky to receive such information full stop, let alone on a public forum.

Any suitable habitat in the UK has the potential to turn up an overshooting singing bird I guess - I think that is about as accurate as it can get..

So is it a fear of egg collectors or just fear of disturbance if the news got out?

Do you mean in the UK ? For example, the species is very common in much of central and eastern Europe...

Probably both! they turn up every year in varying numbers but news rarely gets out anymore.

Savi's Warbler is common in my county, I think you can get up to 10, maybe 15 in my county on one day.
In the Oostvaardersplassen (place north of mine) it's a really easy bird with singing birds every 30 meters or something.

Not just eggers. I am affraid photographers and others these days are not all as squeaky clean as some of them would have us believe. There is an increasing desire to get pics of rarities even though in many cases the ones they do manage to get may be less than useful "record" shots.

i saw 5 last year in southern brittany i found them ver easy to mix up with cetti's wablers but the songs usualy give them away and you will definitly hear them before you see them

Andy,

I have only ever seen two Savi's, my first was at Stodmarsh (NNR in Kent) and the second on my own patch at Ria de Alvor.

They are however relatively common at Lagoa de Santo André (just north of Sines in western Portugal) where they breed. I have not been to this locality myself but I know many people who have and they all say that it is fabulous but that access is difficult.

I can give you details of two field guides which cover this location:

1. "A Birdwatcher's Guide to Portugal and Madeira" by C C Moore, G Elias & H Costa. Pub. by Prion Ltd. ISBN 1 871104 07 6

2. "Where to Watch Birds in Spain and Portugal" by L Rose. Pub. by Hamlyn. ISBN 0 600 58404 6
