Howdy Y'all from the Rio Grande Valley of south Texas. Yes, I know you're all envious of our swell birds but we pay for it with hot 'n nasty stifling, muggy, buggy summers. Check out my blog. http://antshrike.blogspot.com/

Bienvenido, I too have visited & enjoyed your blog before.

I was jealous of some friends who planned their own birding trip to Texas, that was until I picked them up from the airport and saw how Jayne had suffered from mozzie bites. It hasn't totally put me off 'tho. ;)

Were they mosquitos or chiggers? Chiggers are a parasitic mite that you get in grass and weeds. They attach to the base of a hair follicle and secrete a digestive enzyme that cause many people to itch for weeks and scratch leaving a sore. Some people aren't bothered by them. They're bad thoughout tropical America and I've gotten them in the Philippines also.

The bites were mainly on her arms so I presumed they were mozzies. I've had a chigger (harvest mite) bite on my ankle here in the UK, they're pretty rare here unlike Panama where my boots came back yellow from the sulphur used as a repellant.
