Hello, I am new to this so please be understanding.. I know most birds here in South Florida but this one has me stumped... It looked like a "couple" and I don't know whether they are a goose or duck. I've never seen them before. It's a cool dreary day here is Ft. Lauderdale & I'm wondering if these two just decided to stop by for a vacation... Someone out there know what they are???

They're Egyptian Geese. We've got a good feral breeding population over here now, but not sure as to their status in the States. They won't be genuine that's for sure...!!

Hi wendeehart, I see birdboybowley has IDed them for you. There are a few small feral groups of these birds around the states and we have a few in California too. By the way, your White Ibis look tame too!

Thank you for the IDing of these beautiful birds... I sure hope that they stick around. The muscovie (?) ducks don't seem to like them and keep away. Living is South Florida is great for watching birds. My ibis are alway running around the pond & grounds of my apartment complex. Blue heron, egrets and hawks also show up at times. I will have to have my camera ready now that I have found this site.

I really appreciate the time taken to help me.

Nope, different species, not closely related as far as I know.

Incorrect, Egyptian Goose is part of the Shelduck subfamily Tadorninae.
