I appreciate everyone's help. This one was seen in June. Could it be a Little ringed plover, or something else.

Certainly looks like adult summer LRP to me. I do not think there is another small plover with such a distinct yellow orbital ring (but, as I have said before, I am not "up" on Asian birds).

Thanks for the confirmation. I think it is as you say. I was struck by your quote in red. What does it mean?

That if there was a God, the Almighty Creator, then he would not be allowing all the crimes against humanity and nature which we see today, OR, this is just a rehearsal for the way the world works and the "real thing" will run much better when we have all learned by our mistakes.

Can't remember where the quote came from (it is not mine), but as a sceptical non-believer I thought it flippantly appropriate to the way in which the world is going down the tubes.

Hi folks

Long-billed has an orbital a little like LRP (much less pronounced though) but can be distinguished by having a black eyestripe and ear cover patch as opposed to the brown of Long-billed. The black band on the forehead is also spearated from the black by a white line on LRP while the breast band on Long-billed is narrower than on LRP. Long-billeds are also a little more attenuated (although this bird is very skinny looking and leggy) and larger. Fantastic little birds!

this one has quite a good eye-ring http://www.orientalbirdimages.org/search.php?p=4&action=searchresult&Bird_ID=1018&Bird_Family_ID=&pagesize=1
