327 so far (includes two trips into Spain), and going for a Western Reef Egret at "Praia de Quatra Aguas" in Tavira tomorrow (this, if it is a "pure" bird, will be a lifer for me).

Best birds today were a single female Ring Ouzel and two Short-toed Eagles.

At the time of writing I have four very noisy Stone Curlews feeding in my garden - isn't life a bitch?:twitcy::wink:

Black Grouse certainly is a good bird. I recently saw 20 in a Cheviot hill field west of Newcastle, excellent. The population in the UK is doing well, with extensive measures taken by conservation groups.

Holland was once ''crowded'' with Black grouses but the last one seen on a location other than the Sallandse Heuvelrug (where I've seen them) was in the mid 90s. They even occured on a heath some 100meters from my home throughout the 70s.
According to the friend I went with (who saw them before) this was a pretty good day since we saw 3 males displaying quite near and 1 male perched close-by, pitty of the wind though, they were hardly audible because of that.

Maybe the fact that I have Black-winged Kite, Montagu's Harrier, Lesser Kestrel and Great Spotted Cuckoo (to name just a few "posh" ones) on my garden list, as well as having Woodchat Shrike, Fan-tailed Warbler, Crested and Thekla Larks, Quail and Little Owl (again, to name just a few) as garden nesters, has something to do with my liver problems and the rising sales of Islay malt whisky (especially Laphroaig) in Portugal!!!
