Short-toed Lark, maybe?
Colin
P.S. I think it should be mandatory to say WHERE and WHEN (as in time of year) these shots were taken.

:laugh:Sorry Colin, this is a mystery game. If I were posting a question about an ID, I would name place and time; but, not here. The birders here are worldwide and very good, I need all the advantages I can get!
Not a Short-toed Lark or a Reed Bunting.

Yes. Taken on April 29, 2006 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Again, sorry for the horrible photo; you guys are forcing me to dig at the bottom of the barrel to find somethig challenging.

Well, I don't "DO" North American birds and I think it is really bad "form" for someone sailing around the world to post mystery pics which could be from absolutely anyhwere.
At least with John's photos I know that they were taken not only in the U.K. but almost certainly in the Wyre Forest, which gives me a bit of an "edge".
And as for Andy recognising the "flavour" of the sunlight as Californian is just a bit too much.
