Glaucous-winged and Western in front and LBBG behind? It's a good bird, so would be interested in hearing other's thoughts:

Superficially looks like LBBG. The lower bill has too much of a gonydeal angle?? Very dark looks like intermedius?? What are the odds of an intermedius bird in California? Are there asian LBBG this color? I would not call it a second winter but a second cycle? Sorry not much help. May be a hybrid of unknown parents that mimics LBBG?

This doesn't look like a LBBG to me, the legs are pink & there's too much white on the tertials for starters. Could it be a female Western judging by the comparative size to the other bird in the picture?

Without going in to plumage characters, not ignoring the fact that there might one or few such characters wich might suggest a LBBG over a Western Gull - which I think it is.
Structure and bill size with a pronounced (short) gonys angle, the extensive gape line and head shape suggest to me a Western. Perhaps it might come as a surprise to some, with a thin looking bill, without a marked bulbous tip like this to suggest a Western, but a (small) female type with bills like this do occur.

Thanks all for the feedback. What also drew its attention to the observer I think was also how dark the mantle was compared to the Westerns. Small female Western does seem like the logical conclusion however.
