at my local lake (rooksbury mill) there is a resident pair of kingfishers now for 6-7months bnow ive been trying (and failing) to get a good shot but yesterday i finaly did. but they are not as good as i wanted and one reason the bloody thing landed on a completely different perch to normal, i go to watch this bird fro about a minute or so and it go to look at me but seemed to take not a blind bit of notice, now does this mean if i had a portable hide i could get closer to its perch than the 10 -15 meters that i was away from it this time?

the great thing is i spent two days in a conifer plantation getting pooed on by goldcrests but i got my shot!

Hi Joe,
A hide, be it a simple one ie a piece of scrim or something similar will/should get you closer and if you get some meal worm as use by fishermen and cast them around the perch you want, this will attract the fish and the fish should attract the bird.
Check out the perch at different times of the day to see when the light is best.
regards David.

i can almost time when he is going to be there by the minute at the moment spends the morning skitting around the river and is almost impossible to find,
im a fisher man myself and find it difficult to bring the fish closer to the bank as it is quite shallow around the edge i feel that the main perch is just a stopping point on his journey from one lake to another but thanks for the advice i will take that into cosederation
