First one is a water colour, secondi s done in Paint shop pro using colour fill tool, Selection tool, smudge brush and cut and paste.
Third one some detail.

Very good John,
better than many illustrations in some of our older books.I have in the past put some of my really bad images through Photoshop filters and got some strange effects.I will have a look and see if I have still kept some.

I have a look around and found these two.
The first was from an unsuccessful long distanced digiscoped image of some Slav Grebes, and the second from a head on shot of a BH Gull.
From memory they were put through filters in PS and I use some of these for headers etc, not as good as yours, but it might inspire some one else to greater things.
