Good morning everyone!

I've posted a couple of updates in the last three days (including one on our fruit bats!) and today's update has a very sweet video of one of the barn owl chicks at 3 weeks. He came out to be weighed and admired.

Enjoy!

Smashing bit of video Stephanie. The field studies centre next door to me had a CCTV camera in a nest box where Barn Owls (rare here) had nested for several successive years. The local kids who visited the centre as part of their "environmental" education program were really "wowed" by this. Unfortunately one of the adult owls brought home a poisoned rat (locals here put down poison rat bait by the ton to control the brown rats which eat just about anything) and the three fledglings perished. Sad end to such beautiful birds.

Thanks Colin. We have the same problems with poison here. We try to educate as much as possible, but it still happens. Very sad.
