Went down to the dorset coast yesterday .... weather at first!! Red kite on the way down (the first year tick of the day). Looked for the pallas warbler in the rain (what a suprise... no luck). Then we drove on to lodmoor, 15+ sand martins, 1+ house martin and 1 swallow we got for the year, no spoonbills or anything else of interest so we moved to portland harbour. A red necked grebe showed well but the great northen diver took some finding. Last stop was for the female surf scoter, the otherside of the fleet. We got it but i have to say, it was'nt the best view and the light was ..... plenty of stonechats, double figures in one field! im guessing they have come across from france and spain? I had a really good day with the extra bonus of some "summer migrants" to lighten the mood and the depressing weather.
