Hi all,
just been trawling through some old images on the pc and came across this one of a Sandpiper I found in Spring in Lincs in 2006, we never really got to the bottom of why its shows so much spotting so thought I would post on here to get your views.

Very nice. Appears to be a Common Sandpiper in all other respects. I feel I've seen another photo of Common Sand with spotting on underparts but this bird is quite extensively spotted.

Hi Trev,
I thought it was concluded that this was a Common Sandpiper? Common Sands do show spotting to various extents on their undersides and this appears to be an extreme example.

Hi Josh,
Yes it is a Common Sandpiper, I just think its an interesting bird and pic, i don't think its appeared on this forum before so thought I would post it, as you say its an extreme example, in 30 years of birding I have never seen anything like it so it intrigues me a little.
