Can anyone explain this strange behaviour. This shot was taken in October in a lake in Valencia.
A male Mallard was swimming nearby watching these two females/juveniles. The dominant one kept jumping on the others back and pushing its head under water. This continued for some time until they were disturbed by other people nearby, when the three of them just swam off together??

very odd.

This is not strange at all in "Duck World". Copulating ducks do this frequently; very often the male will hold on to the feathers on the back of the female's head while he gives her a good "ducking"!!! :ohdear:

Thanks for the info Colin. The reason I thought it was strange was because it was two females ducking each other, the male was just watching.
