Some ace shots of two Lesser Sand-plovers on US stop press, but should they really be called Mongolian Sand-plovers, as they are of the mongolus/stegmanni types that have subtly different features (black line along top of breast band, flank marks, etc.) from the atrifrons group?
The editorial comment in response to Garner et al (Birding World 16 (9): 377-385 states 'it is no longer tenable to regard Mongolian Plover and Lesser sand-plover as members of a single species' - though the authors do not go quite so far.
