Hi all

I'll visit a language course in England from september to december. Beside the language studies I intend to spend some time bird watching. But I have no idea where to go to. I'm basically interessted in migrants and winter guests.
What region would you recommend to got to?

greetings Fabian

Hello and welcome to the forum

There is no better place than Norfolk you have winter Raptor Roosts, Snow buntings on the beaches, wintering geese and other wildfowl. I could go on.

Pm me and I will take you out and about if that is what you choose to do.

I'll heed beltonbirders advice and try to find a school in Norwich.

Hi Fabian,
If you can't find a place in Norfolk, try somewher around Liverpool, in the northwest. Vastly underrated but with just as many geese and waders as Norfolk, and, at times easier to see

Norfolk is, of course a great birding county, but you might also like to consider trying Kent. I suspect transport links are better if you need to get around by yourself Canterbury has several well established language schools and several good birding sites easily accessible by bus/train:-
1 - Stodmarsh/Grove - for wetland species -frequent bus service
2 - Reculver - migrants & seabirds - regular bus service
3 - Oare (Faversham) - 12 minutes on the train then bus/walk - shorebirds
4 - Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory - regular bus service - migrants etc
5 - Canterbury ring woods - bus/walk - woodland species

Further afield and possible but not easy to get to on bus/train -
1 - Dungeness Obs/RSPB reserve
2 - Elmley RSPB reserve - train & longish walk (OK if you have a bike!)

For ideas about what's here look at the KOS webpage,
John

As an ex-Londoner (and originally ex-Cumbrian) I would fully endorse John's recommendations. I have done most of my British birding in Kent which includes my three favourite places: 1. Dungeness, 2. Stodmarsh and 3. Elmley.

I would add Rye Harbour in East Sussex as my fourth.
