There is a Black-winged Kite on the southern side of Geneva. I managed to see it this evening in the pouring rain. It is probably only about the 3rd or 4th for Switzerland. It seems to have been in the area for some time as one was reported from nearby France more than a month ago.

It's the 5th record for Switzerland and a different bird to the one in adjacent France (the French one wasn't an adult). However, it is said to be present since 10 days but was surpressed (I wonder why).
I was there today too, in soaking rain, but it was worth it!

And more than a month later it is still there at exactly the same spot. Another unusual bird that we have at this time of year is a Squacco Heron, (at Sionnet GE), more usually seen in the spring.
