I've just had a birthday and I'm feeling old and crotchety so I'm not saying old or new world Colin; even for you.;)

Are there two birds in this shot (what is that dark "thing" bottom left)?

Not that it matters, 'cos I have not a clue what it/they are!! :err:

Are you going to put us out of our misery? Please!!
I'm used to being unable to ID photos, but it's agony not knowing what family or even what continent I'm supposed to be looking at!!

No, Sue won't do this - she is going to taunt us with mediocre shots of "bits" of birds which could be from anywhere in the world.

Good one Sue. How about a clue such as continent? Is it some sort of aberrant phylloscopus warbler like a Willow Warbler?

Mediocre? I thought this bit was quite good! (I think the blob at the bottom is a dried flower blossom)All right, I'll tell where, but that's going to make it too easy. I am leaving in about a half hour for the Canary Islands. I took this shot in a botanical garden on a good sized Rock hanging off Spain.
Sorry I couldn't check for responses yesterday, my internet cut off. Unless someone answers in the next few minutes, I'll have to get back when we get to the Canaries. If things go well, that should be 4 days.

Olivaceous Warbler?

Bill looks a bit too thick but that could be the angle of the shot.

Melodious Warbler - bill looks too strong for a Phyllosc, to me. Not much else to go on, though in my imagination I believe I can see a paler wing panel.

Come on Sue, it doesn't take that long to get to Teneriffe. I hope you haven't "done a Titanic" and left us with an I.D. mystery :swoon:

Hi All,

I had a great long explanation written out, but when I went to post it, it came back that I wasnīt logged in. I lost all I had typed. Iīm not up to doing it again so let me just congratulate Brian and Bobolink for guessing the bird. Melodious Warbler it is! I canīt post the good final photo because I am in an internet cafe and donīt have my computer and photos. Iīm really sorry it took so long to get back.

Ok, I switched to a computer without gum in the keyboard. I just wanted to say that three of the days were spent at the beautiful little Isla Graciosa just north of Lanzarote. I loved it! Unfortunately, we had HUGE winds and rain for two of the days and had to stay on Peregrine. The day I went ashore was so nice. I got a few liferīs. Two were Berthelotīs Pipit and Spectacled Warbler. The island is a magical place.

Hi,
I found a place that has Wi-Fi, so I'm posting the 'proof' shot.
