These spiders were very common in Korea. The webs were often a metre in diametre and woven between bushes. The images were taken a few days ago.

Hi Jacqueline,
There are more than one species here (I think), but the main subject is the "Giant Wood Spider" (Nephilia maculata). It produces the strongest web of any species in the world, capable of trapping small birds :eek:

Having done some research the smaller spider could be the male as the female's body length ranges was 17 to 25 mm, while the male is only 7 to 10 mm - he must feel hen pecked.
It was fascinating to hear about the strength of the thread and to discover its been used for centuries by various cultures to snare birds and catch fish.
