The images were taken yesterday. There were a number of this species with none of the plants more than foot tall.

It must be a species of Abutilon. Its fruit seems to be a bit small for Abutilon theophrasti (Velvet-leaf).

Thanks. I think this could be Abutilon theophrasti from the images I've studied. I also understand that the plant prefers rich and cultivated soil and these were growing in an area of wasteland which could explain the small fruit.

To me this looks also like A. theoprasti; fruit may not be fully grown yet.
