Tari - PNG - help needed

I'm a scuba diver & occasional birder going to PNG this April.
I'd like to go to Tari to see the King of Saxony BoP
I've had emails from Warili Lodge & Ambrua Lodge this week & cannot afford their accommodation & tour rates.

Has any birder here been into Tari solo, without the services of the 2 lodges?
Interested in where you stayed - I'm looking at the Women's guesthouse just off the airstrip - but need a reputable local guide & transport to get from the town up to an elevation beyond Ambrua, where I know King of Saxony has been seen.

Basically any tips would be great.

I am wondering if you ever went to Tari and if you stayed at the Tari Women's guest house. I am going to Tari in Jan 2010 and want to stay at the Tari Womens gh and am wondering what to expect. They do not have email so I imagine I will just have to show up and hope all is well. I am also a solo traveler. Susan
