Hi - this is my first post so hope you'll be kind!

I'm going to Miami mid-March on a short business trip staying in Miami Beach. I hope to have an afternoon or a morning free and hoped to do some bird watching. Apart from the obvious - the Everglades, can anyone suggest somewhere to go for a few hours or even whether I would have time to see a bit of the Everglades?

All suggestions most gratefully received.

Mathewson Hammock County Park is an excellent site with access to some mangroves. Brown Pelicans and Skimmers often here with herons and shorebirds. I have seen White-crowned Pigeon there.

To get there head for Coral gables on US 1 and turn off south on Cutler Road - the entrance is on the left.

You can always contact a birdingpal in the area through this link http://www.birdingpal.org/fl.htm. These are birders who are happy to take other birders out for a day free of charge. Good luck birding.

Hi

I do not know where you are based.I occasionally go overseas on company business and was given a wonderful book last Christmas.Where to watch birds World cities by Paul Milne.I would suggest getting hold of a copy if your work takes you overseas.I am in no way connected to the author but the information is great including how to get to sites useing public transport. The book covers Miami, but obviously for copyright reasons I cannot post details here.Hope this is of some help!.
Good Luck birding if you get the time.
