surprised there's not more of a buzz about this....

14:19 03/03/09 Gyr Falcon Norfolk Terrington Marsh 13:45 probable grey morph or hybrid large grey falcon flew east at 13:45

Sure the spectre of falconer's birds and minging hybrids always looms large but this has been an amazing winter for grey Gyrs on the near-Continent - a record year in fact in Denmark with four* 2nd cal Gyrs during 12th-27th Feb alone....

I spoke with the finder of the Wash Gyr, which although seen briefly does sound like the genuine article, a grey Gyr-type was seen to come in-off in East Norfolk a little while back (buzzing a Guillemot in the process). To add to this we now have reports of a 'white' Gyr from North Norfolk and a grey bird from Brundall. Not sure where that leaves us.......

Obvious really. Birding is not all black or white, there are some grey areas too.

Will last year's Black/Black-eared Kite debacle do for starters? Or was that the year before?
